HR and payroll software that gets the UAE right.
GPSSA pension contributions for UAE nationals, end-of-service gratuity for every employee, and WPS-ready payslips — calculated correctly on every payroll run. Built for companies operating under UAE law, not adapted from a template built for somewhere else.
Mapped to the laws that actually govern payroll in the UAE
GPSSA pension contributions and end-of-service gratuity are calculated automatically — filing and remittance to each authority remains yours to complete.
Not a global tool with a currency toggle.
A dedicated UAE compliance engine.
GPSSA, calculated for UAE nationals
Federal Decree-Law No. 57 of 2023 rates are built in — 5% employee, 12.5% employer, on pensionable salary (basic + housing + defined allowances) up to the AED 50,000/month ceiling. Abu Dhabi nationals get the equivalent ADFPSSA treatment automatically.
End-of-service gratuity, done right for everyone
Under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021: no gratuity under one year, 21 days' basic salary per year for 1–5 years (halved on resignation), and 30 days per year beyond five, capped at two years' total salary. Calculated for expats and nationals alike.
No income tax to get wrong
There is no personal income tax in the UAE, so payroll runs skip the withholding calculation entirely — net pay is gross salary less GPSSA (for the nationals who owe it) and any other agreed deductions. Nothing to configure, nothing to mis-slab.
Payroll that speaks AED — and WPS
The UAE is a native payroll country: Dirhams by default, a 1 January fiscal year, and pay run data structured so it's ready for disbursement through a MOHRE Wage Protection System-registered channel.
“Is this employee a national or an expat, and how many years have they served” is the wrong question to be re-deriving by hand every payday. It should be settled the moment you set up an employee — not recomputed every month from a spreadsheet someone built two years ago.
Set an employee’s nationality and start date once. Every payroll run after that applies the correct GPSSA contribution or end-of-service gratuity accrual — with each component itemized on the payslip.
No implementation partner.
No spreadsheet migration.
Set your country to the UAE
AED becomes your default currency and your fiscal year is set to 1 January automatically.
Mark each employee's nationality
UAE national or expat — this is what determines whether GPSSA or end-of-service gratuity applies, and mainland or free zone employment type.
Run payroll
GPSSA contributions and gratuity accrual are calculated automatically, itemized on the payslip, and ready for review before WPS-compliant disbursement.
The compliance details,
taken seriously.
Most payroll tools bolt the UAE on as an afterthought — a currency symbol and a flat rate. Here is what is actually built into ProtoHR’s UAE compliance engine.
GPSSA contributions, mapped correctly
5% employee and 12.5% employer contribution on pensionable salary — basic, housing, and other defined allowances — capped at the AED 50,000/month ceiling. Applied only where it legally applies: UAE nationals.
Expats get gratuity, not a pension deduction
Because GPSSA excludes expatriates, ProtoHR tracks end-of-service gratuity for every non-national employee instead — daily salary calculated as (monthly basic × 12) / 365, applied per the Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 tiers.
Resignation vs termination, handled differently
The 1–5 year gratuity band pays 50% of the standard 21-days-per-year rate on voluntary resignation and the full rate on termination — a distinction that's easy to miss by hand and is applied automatically here.
Mainland and free zone, one system
DIFC, ADGM, and other free zones run their own employment regulations alongside MOHRE-governed mainland employment. ProtoHR handles employees across both without separate configuration or a second system.
WPS-ready pay run data
Payslips and pay run output are structured to support disbursement through a MOHRE Wage Protection System-registered channel — the compliance requirement that most UAE employers must pay salaries through.
A fiscal year that matches the UAE's default
Payroll and reporting run on a 1 January fiscal year by default when you set your organization to the UAE, matching standard UAE practice.
Payslips with every component itemized
GPSSA (where it applies) and gratuity accrual appear as clear line items — so an employee, whether national or expat, can see exactly how their pay and entitlements were calculated.
An audit log that answers questions
Every change to a salary, a payroll run, or an employee record is recorded with who made it, when, their IP address, and the before/after values.
Replace the spreadsheet
and the compliance guesswork.
Stop maintaining a hand-built GPSSA tracker alongside a separate gratuity calculator and a third spreadsheet for free zone employees. ProtoHR keeps your entire UAE workforce — national and expat, mainland and free zone — in one place.

the honest answers.
Does ProtoHR file GPSSA or WPS submissions on my behalf?
No — and we want to be upfront about that. ProtoHR calculates the correct GPSSA pension contributions and prepares WPS-ready payslip and pay run data on every cycle, itemized and ready to hand to your bank or filing process. Filing and remittance to GPSSA, and disbursement through your WPS-registered channel, stays with you.
Do expatriate employees get GPSSA?
No. GPSSA (and ADFPSSA in Abu Dhabi) applies only to UAE nationals. Expatriates — around 90% of the UAE's private-sector workforce — make no GPSSA contribution. Instead, they accrue end-of-service gratuity under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, which ProtoHR calculates for every employee automatically.
Can we run payroll in AED?
Yes. The UAE is a fully supported payroll country — AED is the default currency, and your fiscal year defaults to 1 January.
We have employees in both mainland and a free zone — does that work?
Yes. Mainland (MOHRE-governed) and free zone employees such as DIFC or ADGM are supported side by side in the same organization, with no extra configuration required to switch between them.
How is our data protected?
Each organization's data is isolated by PostgreSQL row-level security at the database layer, every sensitive change is captured in an audit log with who, when, and what changed, and access is controlled by role-based permissions with SSO/SAML support.
